Follow-ups
The surgery is just the first step towards your goal of regaining your health. In order to achieve this goal, proper follow-up by health care professionals is mandatory for the rest of your long and happy life.
This follow-up can be done by our team if you are able to return for your regular visits or it can be done by your local health care team. We will always be available to give as much support to your family doctor or other members of your health care team. We will send a detailed letter to your doctor to explain the required follow-up. We are but a phone call away for additional support. Subsequent visits at the Bariatric Clinic or with your own health care team should be (according to each procedure): For Roux en Y Gastric Bypass:At 1 month, 3 months, and 6-12 months after your surgery. Weight and diet history will be monitored and you will have appropriate blood tests to ensure that you are not developing vitamin and iron deficiencies.
For Adjustable Gastric Banding:Every 8 weeks (depending on your progress), until band adjustment is optimal. Weight and diet history will be monitored and you will have a band adjustment as required until you are maintaining 1-2 lbs weight loss per week.
For Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy:At 1 month, 3 months, and 6-12 months after your surgery. Weight and diet history will be monitored and you will have appropriate blood tests to ensure that you are not developing vitamin and iron deficiencies. If after 1 year your weight loss stops (which occurs in some cases), you will be evaluated for the completion surgery of your choice (gastric bypass or duodenal switch).
