We have the largest laparoscopic bariatric surgery experience in Canada and perform the laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB), the laparoscopic gastric bypass and more recently the laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy. The laparoscopic duodenal switch (DS) is also available. Clinics that offer only one type of weight loss surgery cannot avoid bias in patient selection. If you ever tried to buy a car and the salesman insists on the “red one” because that is the only color available, you will understand what we mean.

Our patients can choose the surgery that is right for them, not the surgery that is available¹. Both banding and gastric bypass are offered by laparoscopy and therefore the claims that one is too radical only hold for clinics that do the laparoscopic band and either do not perform the RY gastric bypass, or if they do, perform it by the more invasive open or "big cut down the middle" technique.
